School Name Change

Ngāi Tūāhuriri have gifted a new name to the school Te Aratai. In English: pathway to the sea.  The reasons for this change were discussed in our last newsletter by the Principal Dick Edmundson and can be found here The reaction to this change from Past Pupils was not unexpected. The majority preferred the old name, but a good number of respondents felt it was a sound move for the future of the school. Comments were received such as: “I like that it encompasses the whole area that it has and will continue to serve. I hope the new college can proudly continue to educate and champion pupils in the best way as its history has proven. Kimihia! ” “It is beautiful, and you have worked with local iwi to obtain the name, well done.” “I like this name that describes the physical setting for the new College, as well as including its new outlook and future direction.” The school BOT has agreed that the link to Linwood College’s origins – the motto ‘Kimihia’ is an important one for both current and Past Pupils and have agreed to incorporate this motto as part of the school culture going forward.
