Ernie Poole
Ernie Pool was one of a group of influential staff members at Linwood High School in the late 1950s and 1960s. Poole was a stalwart of the Social Science Department, and a key player in the school’s cadet programme. Poole went on to become the commanding officer of the Nelson, Marlborough Westcoast and Canterbury territorial regiment with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, during the last years of compulsory military training. After Linwood, he continued his teaching career at Riccarton, as a long serving deputy principal. He retained a real affection for the college. An earlier bequest led to the endowment of a history prize, which is awarded to a senior student for original historical research.
Making a Bequest
If you are considering making a bequest/s in your will, a bequest to Linwood College Foundation is a very significant and special way of supporting the future success of Linwood College Students.
There are several ways in which you can nominate your gift.
- A Specified Sum
This is a very common form of bequest where you specify a fixed amount, however it is recommended that you review your will every five years. - A Percentage Bequest
This allows for a specific percentage/proportion of your estate to be given to the Trust. - A Residuary Bequest
You may leave the balance of your estate to the Trust after all other expenses have been deducted. - Gift of Assets
You may prefer to leave a specified gift to the Trust. A property, shares, stocks, bonds, jewellery, works of art or other gifts you wish to nominate. These may be retained by the Trust as a capital investment or sold to raise funds.
